Dean McPhee / Racker&Orphan
This event is a joint album launch for Dean McPhee's "Fatima's Hand" and Racker&Orphans' "Sounds of Insects", both released April 2015 on the Hood Faire label.
Fatima's Hand is West Yorkshire based solo electric guitarist Dean McPhee's second full length album and the follow up to 2011's "Son of the Black Peace". Dean plays a Fender Telecaster through a valve amp and effects pedals. His atmospheric echo-laden compositions are inspired by a wide range of influences including British Folk, Dub, Krautrock, Post Rock, Moroccan Trance and Modal Jazz and he has supported and toured with artists such as Thurston Moore, Michael Chapman, Emeralds, Charalambides, The Magic Band, Acid Mothers Temple and Bohren and der Club Of Gore.
"Sounds of Insects" is a collaboration between Sam McLoughlin (N Racker/Sam and the Plants) and David Chatton-Barker aka David Orphan (Folklore Tapes). It is a direct homage to an old Scholastic/Folkways field recordings LP of the same name by Albro T. Gaul and finds Racker&Orphan combining acousmatics, live projections, field recordings and handmade instruments to create mysterious, insectile soundscapes where it is uncertain where one sound source ends and another begins.
There will be copies of both albums available to buy on the evening.
