Tsembla / F.Ampism

Tsembla is the musical work of Marja Johansson, a Swedish-Finnish artist living and working in Turku, Finland. Utilizing a wide range of instruments, electronics, objects and samples, the music of Tsemblarides on waves of warped melodies, fluttering rhythms, abstract voices and mutating textures, crossbreeding the known and the imaginary. Terror & Healing (New Images, 2015) is her fourth releasease, after Nouskaa Henget (New Images, 2013), the EP Tuplafiesta (Vauva, 2009) and the LP Fauna (Ikuisuus, 2011). Loosely assembled, rough edged compositions, rich in details, come together into odd instrumental miniatures in an almost-pop format, venturing into fourth world territory from a lattering, wheezing and boiling DIY kitchen.

F.Ampism is the brainchild of Brighton based sound artist Paul Wilson. Tiny Mix Tapes enlightens us thus: "F.Ampism is the Smerdyakov branch on the Les Baxter family tree, a branch extending into the edges of exotica, where the jungle is unmade and overgrown, 1970s bush, a different sort of rainforest than David Tudor imagined. Exotica as a function becomes unrecognizable. Nor is it recognizable as a genre. Exotica becomes a feeling lost amid small stinging creatures, unpredictable downpour, whorls of vegetation, and numerous sets of teeth that nibble at nearly every inch, whose bite marks specify where the red and green lights ought to be stashed."

So there you go.
