Sunset Graves / Thomas Ragsdale

Sunset Graves is one of Andy Fosberry’s three projects, alongside Lo Grounds and tpique which operate through his record label 3rd & Debut Records; pushing cutting edge electronic music and various side projects over a variety of formats. Sunset Graves’ acclaimed new album 'In Blood' came out in March and has aired on BBC6 Music via Maryanne Hobbs, Tom Ravenscroft and Gideon Coe, with online features across Clash Magazine, Data Transmission, Hyponik and Shout4Music.

It’s already been a busy 2016 for Sunset Graves - touring with Thomas Ragsdale in March and supporting the Three Trapped Tigers tour in May. You can expect his live performance to be more percussive than on the album. With four albums in three years behind him, this late summer show is a chance to hear new material all performed live - all hardware - and in the moment.

“Spanning 40 minutes with six tracks, Sunset Graves’ fourth album ‘In Blood’ is an expansive piece of work, which presents a sound which is the next natural evolutionary step following previous album-to-album style transitions. Beginning with the post-rock leanings of 2013's ‘Variant’, electronic sounds took centre stage in 2014’s ‘Form Your Ghost’, with an experimental edge driving the soundscapes of 2015’s ‘Love Pours Into Death’.. Twisting and turning in atmosphere and pace throughout the duration of its extensive tracks and overall length, the album conjures in general images of urban bewilderment. ‘The Sorrow’ is subdued and considered when compared with the urgency of the rest of the record, a feeling which peaks with the flustering ‘Drops of Pain’ before the epic ‘The Inexhaustible’ carefully calms the mind and brings ‘In Blood’ to a wholly satisfying conclusion.” - Kyle McCormick

Manchester based composer Thomas Ragsdale melds cinematic electronica with organic, immersive soundscapes. Spending his formative years composing a varied catalogue of music for TV, film and advertising companies, his gradual shift into the world of performing solo music is one that's quickly won acclaim from the likes of Resident Advisor and FACT.

Having composed and released soundtracks for feature films premiering at Film4's prestigious FightFest and EPs with lavish packaging backed with personally intimate subject matters, Thomas' music evokes spacious resonance and emotional response. His approach to writing and producing is built around a minimalist framework, choosing to rely heavily on organic instrumentation overlaid with subtle electronic elements, whilst live performances take on a more visceral approach with tense peaks of sound in front of a full live visual show. He's so far shared stages with the likes of Her Name Is Calla, Danielle de Picciotto & Alexander Hacke (of Einstürzende Neubauten) and toured with fellow ambient electronica outfit Sunset Graves.

Ragsdale is also a member of electronica outfit worriedaboutsatan and a producer of dance floor heavy techno as Winter Son. The music produced under his own name wanders through introspective, pared down soundscapes, which evolve from fragile ambience to crushing intensity.
