Glorias Navales / Manu Louis

CONCERT / WEDNESDAY 3RD MAY, 20:00 / £6.00

Glorias Navales (GxNx) is a five-piece ensemble based in Santiago, Chile. The group get together regularly in a private space to jam out a type of late night campfire trance music, bridging the gap aesthetically and stylistically between Chilean folk music (ala Violeta Parra) and ramshackle post-Velvets psychedelia. Their sound – crafted on acoustic guitars, rabel and bombo chino (drum) – have resulted in stunning releases; ‘Carta a Maureen Tucker’ ETCS and ‘Cofradia Nautical’ on Graham Lambkin’s KYE label.

Manu Louis is a prolific composer and performer of experimental chanson, influenced equally by pop, jazz, electronic and 20th Century classical music. In 2016 alone, he brought his energetic and unpredictable one-man show to over 100 venues and festivals, spanning 22 countries throughout Europe and Asia. Luxurious horns elegantly collide with cheap synths to cradle his lyrical observations, sung in French and English. His music is, in his own words, "a mountain of plastic glasses in the streets the morning after, a tropical digital marching band, a guy giving all he's got at Karaoke because there's nowhere left to sing, a gypsy virtuoso playing synth with a trumpet sound."
