Sister Iodine / Basic Switches vs Empress Maude

Fuse Art Space is excited to welcome legendary French noise heavyweights SISTER IODINE to Bradford, plus support from BASIC SWITCHES VS EMPRESS MAUDE.

French noise scene spearheads Sister Iodine are currently on tour across the UK, promoting their sixth album ‘Venom’. Active since the early Nineties the group freatures Erik Minkkinen, Lionel Fernandez, and Nicolas Mazet, who have not lost one milligram of their radical and uncompromising approach to sound exploration, through continually stretching the limits of their instruments.

The decisive path of SISTER IODINE has taken a fascinating route. Their debut album, ADN115, released in 1994 was heavily influenced by the original New York No Wave scene (Mars, DNA, Red Transistor), while their more recent works, augmented by newer poisons such as black metal and the most abrasive end of industrial music and power electronics, have re-calibrated both band and audiences.

Following two studio albums on Parisian Label, Premier Sang, released in 2009 and 2013, it took almost 5 years to develop the sound laid bare on ‘Venom’. Editions Mego has recently reissued an extended version of Premier Sang's "Flame Desastre" on CD, bringing further recognition of the band's survival through the years, from the inhospitable French squats of the nineties to today's established venues and proper tours.

The last few years have also witnessed an increasing number of collaborations, including recent sessions with Meyhna'ch (Mütiilation) and Masaya Nakahara (Violent Onsen Geisha / Hair Stylistics). "Venom" includes two tracks featuring the vocal contribution of Stephen Bessac, the deviant frontman of cult French hardcore band Kickback.

Sister Iodine produces today a music that is actually unique and unheard anywhere else. One of eternal youth and audacity.

We're fully stoked to be getting fired up for the night with BASIC SWITCHES VS EMPRESS MAUDE. Empress Maude's last appearance at Fuse garnered a rapturous response from all present, and the added vim of this pairing up with Basic Switches (AKA Hilary Cowtown) promises to pull no punches. Featuring members of Bloodclaat Orange, Cowtown, Mia La Metta, and Beards.
