Portrait Salon Talk

In conjunction with the first ever printed exhibition of the Portrait Salon, we are excited to announce that on Saturday the 15th of February we will be holding a talk and Q&A session with Portrait Salon founders Carole Evans and James O Jenkins, also featuring some of the photographers whose work was selected by the panel of judges for this year’s exhibition.

Founded in 2011 by photographers Carole Evans and James O Jenkins, Portrait Salon has existed in previous years as a projection. This year, Fuse Art Space will be holding the first ever printed exhibition of the selected images, spanning a cross section of the best contemporary portrait photographers from around the world. Almost 1,000 images from 330 photographers were entered into Portrait Salon 2013, with the nal 42 images chosen by three judges: photographer Abbie Trayler-Smith, Harry Hardie from HERE Press, and Jim Stephenson from Miniclick Talks. The result is a fascinating illustration of the diverse challenges associated with good portraiture.

“We figure that, out of the 6000+ rejected entries, there are excellent portraits which deserve to be seen”
Carole Evans

The event will include a discussion with the competition founders and photographers, a Q&A session, a screening of all the entries to this year’s competition and a chance to meet and chat to the people involved. The Portrait Salon exhibition continues at Fuse Art Space until the 8th March 2014.
